Since September 2019, I have been a supervisor for ServiceMaster, a commercial cleaning company. I manage a diverse group of cleaning personnel and interact with clients in banking, manufacturing, and healthcare.

 

 

EVS Supervisor: UM Upper Chesapeake Medical

​1978-2018

  • Oversaw installations and upgrades to IPA/ScrubEx machines for scrub dispensing, a cost-saving measure to control losses, and served as system administrator for web-based interface. Troubleshot system problems and worked with the vendor to resolve them in a timely fashion.

  • Introduced new disposable wipe system with improved chemicals to reduce surgical turnaround times in high-capacity periperative and interventional radiology suites. Trained employees in their use and monitored results by direct observation.

  • Attended “Environment of Care” rounds with unit and senior leaders to assess and address patient safety and cleaning issues in the Operating Rooms, Outpatient Suites, Imaging Unit, Emergency Department, and Kaufman Cancer Center. Also attended daily Patient Safety Briefings hosted by senior leadership as a department representative several days per week.

  • Ordered linen supply within departmental budget and served as point-person with commercial laundry to manage costs.

  • Collaborated with information technology by serving as EVS “super-user” during roll-out of new bed-tracking software and building of “Housekeeping Desktop” in that system. Formed close working relationships with I.T. analysts to resolve issues related to EVS at two facilities.

  • Implemented terminal cleaning procedure changes to align departmental practice with AORN Guidelines; maintained physical and digital records of compliance. Successfully integrated 3M CleanTrace technology for checking cleanliness of operating rooms and maintained digital records of cleanliness.

  • Managed, trained, and observed teams of housekeepers (as many as 24) in daily cleaning of patient rooms, care areas, outpatient suites, offices, and public areas. Maintained records of training and disciplinary actions.

  • Rounded the campus several times per shift with an eye toward maintaining clean surroundings. Established relationships with in-house customers to insure cleanliness of the facility met with their needs.

  • Scheduled and conducted department meetings to assist directors. Conducted daily team member Performance Improvement huddles. Booked venues for departmental events such as “National EVS Week.”

  • Mentored colleagues as they were promoted from team member roles to supervision, and served as a resource afterward.

  • Surveyed patients and customers using Crothall Quality Assurance forms and policies. Followed up on concerns raised during these surveys. Reported those results to department management.

  • Coordinated projects in the Emergency Department, Post-anesthesia Care Unit, and Imaging to apply Epic Polyurethane floor finish to rooms and corridors, improving the appearance of the floors while saving stripping and refinishing time.

  • Participated in start-up of the new Bel Air facility. Assisted with the moving of patients from old facility.

Previous skills learned as a Team Lead, Project Technician, or Linen Technician:

​​Performed hard floor care: dusting, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, application of floor finish, burnishing. Vacuumed, extracted, and shampooed carpets. Managed hospital linen distribution. Cleaned restrooms,  offices, patient rooms, discharges, operating rooms. Removed and disposed of all hospital waste streams. Operated  and was certified to operate hospital incinerator. Transitioned into lead role while at Fallston General Hospital prior to opening of UM UCMC.
